The last few weeks of hot weather have wreaked havoc in my yard.
Check out the fetching burnt lawn:
I’ll be giving hayrides this fall, just follow the smell of mulled cider.
We have been watering the gardens (the lawn is a waste of water, September usually takes care of that), and some beneficial rain passed through this week, bringing some relief. At least one part of the yard looks nice!
But what better way to stay cool than do this:
Yup, make some refreshing trendy drinks! Last week’s style section had a list of drinks that were popular in bars around Boston, so naturally I decided I had to try some of them. The one above was a hands down favorite!
The Agave Negro
(I tinkered with this a bit….)
1 1/2 ounces Patron silver tequila
1 ounce agave nectar
1 ounce fresh lime juice
1/2 ounce blackberry brandy
fresh blackberries and mint
Muddle mint and blackberries; add all ingredients to jigger with plenty of ice. Shake, shake shake.
Pour into rocks glass. I added a little lemon seltzer for fizz. Limit: 2.
And for a bonus treat today, let’s all watch the latest Old Spice commercial about a dozen or so times, shall we?
Umm, yeah, so much for STAYING cool. That Old Spice guy IS hot!

I love that commercial! THe one they show here, has him in a boat, pulling his moustache off. I like yours better!
Yes, hot weather is a good excuse for a nice, chilled adult beverage!

Oh crap that looks good (the drink) – I’ll be there in less than an hour!
I’m scared to go home to the East Coast; I’ve heard that our little lake has all but dried up and goodness knows what the grass will look like. Your echinacea look happy, though!
I think I’m in heaven: the words “blackberry” and “mint” and “lime” and “agave” and “muddle” all in the same sentence! These are a few of my favorite things….

Is it too early to say, I want one of those? Man, that just looks refreshing and full of alcohol and berries and I have to go see if I have those ingredients.
Meg, I haven’t forgotten you. As soon as I catch up on the laundry, I’m sitting down to make you a list. It will be extensive and I’m taking my time with it. Those are just my paltry excuses for why I haven’t gotten to you yet. Also, I’m in a panic. I haven’t booked anywhere to stay yet! I’ll be there at crush! I’ve got to get on it right quick or you’ll be seeing me there in a tent! And that’s enough exclamation points for one day.

J, get your reservations before you think about my list! I am looking forward to it!
I have been in OBX this past week and I know HOT! I have also been salivating over Isaiah Mustafa, so, yes, m’lady, I know HOT!
p.s. Isn’t that the sexiest name ever? Say it again. Turn it around in your mouth. Isaiah Mustafa. Sigh.
