So, I get a phone call at 8:15 yesterday morning, which in my mind equals an accident, a death, or some sort of emergency. No one ever calls me at that time. I am not a phone babe.
I look at my caller ID, and listen to the message. It’s the pesky company that my husband’s alma mater has hired, most likely at great expense, to update their precious directory. Excuse me, but does this constitute an early morning emergency? Haven’t we done a great job ignoring your entreaties?
You see, hubby’s alma mater, whom I shall refer to as Moly Bross, is always hitting on us for money. Especially since we have earnestly boycotted them for several years. Oh yes, the generous donors stopped giving.
You see, a campus visit was made on a crisp fall day several years ago with a lovely niece. An all A’s honors student attending a collegiate prep school, with an uncle who attended said college. All the grades, tests and extra curriculars were stellar. Better yet, that was the year they were eagerly seeking students outside of the New England and Tri-State areas. The exact demographic you were looking for. And yet Moly Bross committee, she wasn’t good enough?
Anyway, since that time, I decided that any further donations should be, let’s say, Wait Listed. As in, I have far more worthy causes to give to. Helping homeless people. Fighting Leukemia and MS. They don’t include padding your already hefty endowment. And I know it kills you not to get the $ and the bonus company match, cause boy, that was a boatload when that was added in.
And here’s the other dumb thing Moly Bross started to do:

Each and every week, when we get our letter begging for money or for dues, I howl with laughter, because somehow, someone decided after 25 years that my spouse is a member of the bar. What is wrong with you people? Maybe you do need the money for simple and straightforward record keeping???
But doesn’t his name look so cute with an ESQ after it? And the benefits I have gained now? Priceless!
